Genting

Genting with the Arts class of 2010.

Everything was like a movie, of how there are movie plots of climaxes and anti-climaxes. Suddenly, we've hit right bottom and the next moment, we're up there getting high on sparkling juice. It was like chinese new year come early - the cards, the drinks, the free time in the room doing who knows what.

Still, what happened up there, stays up there.

Bye to some people I'll never see any more for the rest of my life. 730 days spent together snake dancing, mdm chowing, shepherd of my souling and working our butts off for spm. bye.

Right now, I'm sick of getting ripped off by theme parks. They are all money-suckers.

Sunway Lagoon

All park tickets.
19 rides.
Rm800.
8 hours.

One heck of a memorable get-together on Christmas Eve.

Biggest accomplishment: Lying to Nikole and Abel that the tomahawk is for small kids.

Abel: Shiiiiiit! You all are idiots! Idiots!!
Nikole: Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh!

EPIC.

Who wants to go on the spinning boots ride again? Yeehaw!

Merry Christmas 2010

Christmas ain't about the presents you demand from your parents or santa claus' beard or Mariah Carey coming out with yet another christmas album. It ain't even about the big fat delicious turkey you just ate.

it's about Jesus.
whom God sent to us 'ta pau-ed' / bawa balik / wrapped in cloths in all humbleness.

so go out there and spend the not so white christmas with your family and friends, always remembering the reason of the season.

Merry Christmas 2010.

Road Tripping

Wikipedia says "A road trip is a journey via automobile, sometimes unplanned or impromptu, away from home, thus encompassing any journey by automobile, regardless of stops en route.
Examples of road trips are traveling across state or country by car. A road trip must be a long journey, at least three hours away, and must cover a long distance
."

KL and Selangor are different states, I think.

Merry eve of christmas eve.

Consumers

I'm a messy freak.

But when the surrounding messiness hits a certain level, I turn into a perfectionistic neat freak.

SPM came and gone, like a whirlwind that swept my room into a "rubbish dump" as my mom would call it.

Few days ago, I decided to have my once in 5 years spring cleaning. True enough, I found a couple of books from my lower secondary years. Geez.

Then it hit me.

If I'm just one out of the 500,000 SPM takers this year, then all the trash I have collected for the past 5 years would be equivalent to of what the other SPM-takers would collect too.

The picture up there shows only my trash. Multiply that by 500,000 and you get all the SPM trash for one year. What about next year? Or the following year? I say, we are becoming one heck of a trashing society.

It's exactly what the producing companies want us to be anyway.

We buy. We might or might not use it. We throw.

So, please if I may ask you, recycle your books.
Give it to your younger siblings or a distant relative or drop them off at school for a lucky passer-by. You're killing two birds with a stone anyway, you save mother earth and you save money. On top of that, you would feel darn good about yourself =)

Hey, if everyone does nothing, the world is still going to end up in global warming, burning our butts off so hot, that in 50 years down the road, I think we would need sunglasses indoors.

I'm glad I found a recipient to inherit my reusable trash.

These are my leftovers, which I think no one out there would want to want them.

Right now, my room is in it's cleanest state ever.

---

About the holidays, I think I need to do more significant things, more than just going out and about town 'lepaking', I should do more extreme things, living on the edge of life sorta stuff. Got a couple of ideas up my sleeves but due to the christmas season, they're on hold at the moment.

But rest assured, crazier stuff coming up!

Till then, Happy Holidays!

Firework by Katy Perry - Ainsley Yap

Enjoy!

So the girlfriend stayed over for 2 nights for conference and we decided to snap something up, because who would want to paint fingernails and talk about ex-boyfriends, which isn't cool at all by the way.

Sorry, I don't really give a hoo-haa about the sound and all because frankly, I think I am tone deaf, no? Or maybe I just don't know the difference between keys and notes and chords or what so ever, I only care about plastic bags and house of cards. Tried to make it Jason Chen / Joseph Vincent / Sam Tsui ish, but I'd say not bad lah, considering it's our first time and it was like 1 in the morning, after a whole afternoon with kids.

Please LIKE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE, RETWEET, REFACEBOOK.
much love from sue and ainsyap.

Recorded with a cheapo 20 bucks headphones that came with a microphone and a Canon 500D + Sigma 30mm f1.4.

Forward

You’ll never enjoy your life,
living inside the box
You’re so afraid of taking chances,
how you gonna reach the top?

Rules and regulations,
force you to play it safe
Get rid of all the hesitation,
it’s time for you to seize the day

Stuck in my same position,
you deserve so much more
There’s a whole world around us,
just waiting to be explored

I guess this is it.

SPM is just another adrenaline pumping memory.

The sleepness nights, the CRAP!ISHOULDBESTUDYING, the sweaty palms, the poops (due to excessive anxiety), the last minute cramming and definitely the last ticking seconds of high school.

Looking forward to opening new doors, exploring new possibilities, doing greater things, stepping outside the box and living life, because curiousity keeps leading us down new paths.

There's nowhere else to go, but FORWARD.

This was taken days ago, but yah I thought I'd comb my hair and wear my tie nicely, for once, sorta like as a tribute.
My mom says she needs to bring me to go shop for college clothes.
Geez, I can't believe I have to pick clothes everyday. I mean, weekends clothes picking are annoying enough.

BYE.

2205 Literature in English.

Literature in English.

This is a story of how a 'mistake' turned out to be a life-changing experience.

I do not read books.

Ever since I knew how to read, I was never interested in reading books. Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl wasn't a part of my childhood. Ladybirds books, yes, only because they were filled with pictures.

Which poses a serious question. Why did I even take up Literature in English for SPM?

At the beginning of Form 4, I only had 9 subjects. I knew I had to take up one more, be it Pendidikan Seni or Literature in English. Judging from my artistic interests, I could have waltzed through Seni, after all chances of getting good grades in Art were much higher compared to a subject that needed one to read and analyse, something I wasn't comfortable with.

Frankly, I do not know why I took up Literature.
But from the looks of things, I can conclude that I am kiasu because I'd like to take up challenges and I know I'd learn much more from Literature, I am severely disappointed with the Seni coursework (the project) and I followed the 'norm', or at least at that point of time, it was considered the norm. I couldn't help much, considering the fact that the only class I have in common with my primary friends is Bible Knowledge.

Originally, I only sat-in the class, with the thought behind my head that when the time comes, I'd only choose whether I should take the SPM paper. I had nothing to lose after all, a little bit of extra information wouldn't hurt anyone. But when the time came, heck, I said this to myself "I did not just spent 1 whole year of my life staying back every Tuesday and Thursday to study Literature and not end up with a sort of proof that I read books".

Two years down the road, 5 short stories, 1 novel, 1 drama and 6 poems later I am proud to say that Literature in English is the most beneficial subject (or at least among the 10 I took).

I say so because every other subject 'gives you a fish', however Literature 'teaches you how to fish'. Take for example, Pendidikan Moral [1225], they give you the definitions. Knowing all 36 definitions will not make a person morally better.

As for Literature, they give you nothing. There are no KOMSAS or small little booklets to tell you what the theme or the literary devices are. You have just got to do it yourself. You read the story, you analyse, you come up with your own reasoning and you just argue your points out in the paper. Literature taught me to be independent, to stop relying on reference books and well, just D-I-Y.

But of course, at this age and time, communication is vital. Thus comes the invention of the Internet, Google and Facebook. Google has been an extremely helpful friend, perhaps my best friend in Literature. There are loads of resources out there and all it takes is a click of a button AND money. I say money because most of the good analysis of books / stories are premium content, meaning one has to pay for it. But if you have the Googling skills, you'd find your way to free content or at least somehow someway get your hands on the premium content, for free. I significantly honed my Googling skills, it's all about keywords.
Then comes Facebook. Facebook itself is a wonder, if used properly. The day before the Literature paper (which was yesterday), Roy created a Literature group on Facebook. For a few hours, the few of us who were at the right time at the right place were discussing about the stories, warming up our brains to analyse and dig deeper. Even Miss Siow, our teacher was there to answer our funny little questions and I quote her "I must say I'm very very very proud of this literature group." Notice the triple verys. Hah! I bet everyone learned a thing or two just by lurking at the group. For that, I want to say a very big thank you to Roy, because I couldn't have warmed up my brains if it weren't for the questions, not after my Perdagangan paper anyway.

The Literature paper requires candidates to do 4 questions, one from each section, namely Short Stories, Novels, Dramas and Poems. Each question consists of 3 sub-questions, 1 comprehension question and 2 essays. It is a 2 and a half hours paper. If you do your Maths well enough, you'd be able to figure out that you have 37.5 minutes to churn out an answer and 2 essays. Time management is a key factor in exams. For this reason, I have learnt that I shouldn't dwell in one question, no matter how unfinished I am, you have just got to MOVE ON. This helped me greatly in my Perdagangan and also Accounts where time is short but nowhere near as short as Literature's. I bet Literature taught everyone to write faster.

Lastly, Literature is quite an open subject. The scope is wide, so you will never know what to expect. People say Accounts is scary because of it's surprisingness but once you meet Literature, it's terrifying. The questions asked are intriguing and I love the fact that when you read a question, it automatically triggers your mind, like POP. Sort of like the same feeling you get when you strongly disagree against a statement.

I have an embarrassing confession to make, right up until today, I have never read the novel or the drama from cover to cover. I've only read bits and pieces here and there and extracted the significant quotes. Yerp, that is how I roll. Literature students would find the Literature component in the English and Malay paper a breeze as the questions are so much more predictable.

If it wasn't for that mistake or should I say, extraordinary leap of faith two years ago, you wouldn't be reading this article, because I wouldn't have been capable of writing one anyway.

Now I know how to analyse the things around me and am adequate enough to write articles such as the one about Streaming and SPM subjects. At the moment, this is as far as it goes, some people say I'd make a good journalist but I just found out, to be able write such compelling articles, one has to read a lot, which is something I am not prepared for.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Siow for giggling with her hands covering her mouth. Not really, but for teaching us for two years, stealing other teachers' classes and for not leaving us at the end of Form 4. As for the papermates - Abel, Daniel, Faith, Mark, Roy, Sze Yuin and Victor, thanks for the 2 hours of togetherness every week. I'd miss that next year. The little things like not bringing food when we're allowed to, stealing each other's essays to judge them and funny talks about relationships. =)

The real reason behind this post is, I'd like to give away my Literature notes, exam papers, analysis and everything else. So anyone out there taking Literature for SPM in 2011, give me a holla or Facebook me. Seriously.

Something to excite your senses. Just so you know, I'm still normal, thank you.

The Cold Hard Truth about SPM

It just suddenly struck me, how today could very well be the last time I see some people in my life. After years of having something in common to bond with each other, today we are given freedom. Freedom is a big word. Freedom can bring people together but freedom can also separate people.

Even at the start of the year, I knew this day was coming - the day we would finish SPM. Little did I know it also meant parting with the people you've grown to grow up with.

However, I am truly thankful and blessed that we have once crossed path in our lives and I wish everyone 'all the best' in their future undertakings.

Freelensing

[warning: rather technical photography post]

Freelensing is a technique whereby you take pictures with the lens detached from the body. Yes, wind, dust, cats and dogs might enter you camera body and eat up your sensor but well, just make sure your not in a sandstorm while doing it.

The plus side: Super f0 aperture bokeh, tilt-shift effect, lensbaby effect, macro effect and light leaks.

The minus side: Manual mode only, super hard to focus, needs high iso to counter shaky hands and risk of dirtying sensor.

Here ya go, first collection of freelensing by yours truly. No subject in particular, but just recent life happenings.
Note: No photoshop colour correcting whatsoever. What you see is what you get, oh except I did sharpened the pictures a tad bit, I don't have robot steady hands.

Hmm, yeah dehydrated cactuses.

Fabulous purple light leak on top right corner + macro capabilities.

Very delicious f0 aperture.

6 down, 4 to go. 4 challenging ones.

Yes, she dropped by to sleep.

He too dropped by to supposedly learn accounts, but I slept.

and he dropped by after pasar malam.

Okay, I cheated on the last one, I converted it to black and white because I ruined the white balance settings, having to handle shutter speed, iso, white balance, lens on left hand and body on right had is no easy job. Sometimes, I thank myself for not getting myself a huge six thousand dollar camera with a ten thousand dollar lens. 500D+50mm booyah!

Ketchup later.

For now,
